Openspace Gallery Exhibition and Meffan Gallery Exhibition

PANE is a site-specific window exhibition series at OPENSPACE Gallery, founded and led by Joanna Wilson and Clare Waddle (Yellow Broom).
Set directly on Grantown High Street, the gallery window becomes both frame and threshold a public platform where work is viewed through the pane and shaped by light, reflection and passing people. The window is not a backdrop; it is part of the artwork.
PANE exists to support risk. Selected artists are invited to step outside commercial expectation and experiment with installation, scale and new ideas.
Through the PANE Open Edge Prize, the window is awarded to artists ready to push their practice further prioritising exploration over sales, process over polish.
The window becomes a testing ground.
The street becomes audience.
The work becomes a step forward.

‘Spore of an idea’
The collaborative installation by artists Steve Haden and Hazel McLeod touches on the subtle interconnections of nature, decay, regrowth and rebirth. Emulating an example of the symbiotic relationship between trees and mycelium (fungus underground network between trees) and two artists working from different disciplines.
Spore explores the juxtaposition of old industry being left to rot with the reclamation of its basic elements back to the ground by microorganisms, spores, seeds, fungus, lichens, moulds, rust etc with the rebirth and growth of new life that emerges from it. Some of these pieces are reimagined from how they might look under a microscope and blown out of proportion for fun!
Both artists make and sell traditional art and crafts however for this installation the materials have been created to be non functional, intentionally used out of context but to remind the viewer how much we need each other to grow.
Behind the scene look at the the making of the installation
